A Journey Beyond the Surface

A Journey Beyond the Surface

With years of experience and a deep understanding of the tourism industry, I’ve identified significant gaps in the current tour programs in Ha Giang. These limitations have inspired me to create a unique travel experience that not only celebrates the region’s rich cultural identity but also fulfills travelers’ desires for meaningful and profound connections.

One of the most pressing issues in Ha Giang is the reliance on guides who meet only the bare minimum requirements. Many tour organizers prioritize cost-cutting over quality, resulting in guides who provide little more than basic information about rest stops, restaurants, and accommodations. Often relying on tools like Google Translate, these guides struggle to bridge the language barrier, leaving travelers with a superficial understanding of Ha Giang’s diverse culture. Even local guides, despite their deep roots in the region, often lack the motivation to expand their knowledge, assuming their mere presence is enough. This approach deprives travelers of the opportunity to truly connect with the 19 ethnic groups that call Ha Giang home, offering only a shallow glimpse into their traditions and way of life.

Another challenge lies in the services provided by local homestays. While many homestays showcase the unique architectural and cultural characteristics of ethnic groups like the H’Mong, Dao, and Tay, their organization and level of service often fall short of travelers’ expectations. Communal rooms are frequently cramped, with small mattresses placed too closely together, prioritizing profit over guest comfort. Although some homestays have begun to improve by offering larger mattresses, better spacing, and private bungalows equipped with modern amenities like air conditioning and hot water, these upgrades remain the exception rather than the norm.

Perhaps the most critical issue is the formulaic nature of existing tour programs, which often follow a generic “eat – play – rest – sleep” routine. While this may suffice for some, it fails to satisfy travelers who seek a deeper understanding of Ha Giang’s cultural and intellectual essence. Such tours reduce the region’s rich cultural tapestry to little more than scenic views and popular road routes, missing the opportunity to create truly transformative experiences.

For me, travel is about more than just admiring landscapes—it’s about understanding the people, customs, and cultural values that make a place unique. I aspire to design journeys that go beyond the surface, allowing travelers to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of Ha Giang while uncovering the vibrant stories that define this region and Vietnam as a whole. My goal is to create trips that connect, educate, and inspire, fostering a deep appreciation for the cultural treasures of this land.
